Tuition Benefit

How It Works

Metropolitan College students will receive up to 100% of the in-state undergraduate tuition rate at Jefferson Community and Technical College and/or University of Louisville contingent upon that student meeting the Metropolitan College requirements explained below. Tuition will be deferred each semester as long as the student meets the program requirements and signs an MC contract by the semester contract signing deadline. If a student’s tuition bill exceeds the in-state undergraduate full-time rate for a student at the University of Louisville, the excess amount will be the student’s responsibility. Students must pass each class with a “C” or better in order to qualify. Beginning Spring 2009, tuition benefits will not be paid for classes with an incomplete, audit, withdraws or grade of “D”.

Students participating in Metropolitan College must go through the admission, assessment, orientation, advising, and registration process at Jefferson Community and Technical College and University of Louisville like all other students. Upon completion of registration, you will need to complete a Metropolitan College Student Agreement, commonly referred to as the “contract.” This can be done at the following locations:

Office Hours and Directions

If you do this prior to the college’s payment due date, you will not have to pay your tuition up front. If you register and do not sign a contract by that time, you will have to pay your tuition or risk having your classes canceled for non-payment.

Out of State Residents (Non-Kentucky)

Metropolitan College tuition benefit will be limited to Kentucky resident tuition rate per credit hour at the institution for which they are enrolled for non-resident participants.

Jefferson Community and Technical College

Indiana students living in counties with existing reciprocity agreements with Jefferson Community and Technical College are charged regular Kentucky resident tuition rates. Those Indiana counties are Harrison, Scott, Clark, Floyd, Crawford and Washington. Indiana students living in contiguous counties (Ohio, Dearborn, Jefferson, Switzerland, Perry, Posey, Spencer and Warrick) will be charged at a different tuition rate. All other non-Kentucky residents will be charged out of state tuition rates. For more detailed information, please visit the Jefferson Community and Technical College Cashier’s page

University of Louisville

Except for the 2006-2007 school year, the Indiana tuition reciprocity is as follows:
The University of Louisville is participating in an Indiana Tuition Reciprocity Program for residents of Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Scott, and Washington Counties who have been admitted directly into an approved program. Students pursuing degrees from the Professional Schools (Law, Medical & Dental) are not eligible. Eligible participants are required to notify the Admissions Office prior to their first enrollment and the Registrar’s Office after their first enrollment of any changes in the enrollment status, if they no longer live in one of the eligible counties, or no longer in an eligible program. The University reserves the right to further investigate and require documentation of eligibility for tuition reciprocity.

For more information, visit the Admission’s residency information web page. Students pursing degrees from the Professional Schools (Law, Medical & Dental) are not eligible. For more detailed information, please visit the University of Louisville Bursar’s Office.

How Tuition is Paid Each Semester

Each semester Metropolitan College students must sign a Metropolitan College Student Agreement (contract). The bursar or cashier office at each institution is notified of the student’s status as a Metropolitan College participant at the beginning of the semester. Do not pay your tuition when you register for classes. Instead, follow the directions provided by the Metropolitan College Office at the institution you are attending.

Please note that if you are eligible for grants (federal and/or state), loans, or other financial awards, your institution may hold those funds to cover the cost of your semester charges.

  • UPS pays 50%
  • Federal or State Grant(s), if awarded, or Metropolitan College pays the remaining 50%

Any federal and/or state grants will be deducted from the tuition benefit offered by Metropolitan College (up to 50% of the tuition). If the student receives funds that exceed half of their semester charges, the school will refund those monies to that student after payment has been received from Metropolitan College and UPS.

Financial Aid

All Metropolitan College participants must apply for financial aid each year using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and present proof to the Metropolitan College office at the school.

Employment

If you do not work through the employment commitment dates listed on your Metropolitan College Student Agreement, please be advised that you will be financially responsible for the tuition incurred for the semester in question.
(see employment requirements).

Withdrawal or Failure

Students will assume responsibility for course work in which they receive a D, Withdrawal, Audit, Incomplete, No Grade, MP or Failing Grade. Remember - Beginning Spring 2009, MC will no longer pay for course work earning a D.
